Geforce 8600 GT, jak zwiększyć wyświetlaną rozdzielczość

Witam mam Linuksa Ubuntu 8.04. Na forum Ubuntu ani na db nie pomogli mi. Przed instalacją sterowników miałam rozdziałkę taką jak na monitorze 1280x1024, a po instalacji maksymalnie to 640x480. Nie da się pracować na takiej.
Jakieś pomysły, sugestie?
Moja karta graficzna to Geforce 8600 GT
W nvidia-settings mam też dwie tylko możliwości. Wszystkie porady z forum zastosowałem i dalej nic. Akceleracja 3d jest ale jak pracować na tak niskiej rozdzielczości.
Mam monitor Samsung SyncMaster 941 MP LCD. Natywna rozdzielczość to 1280x1024.
I stało się coś dziwnego po restarcie próbowałem z powrotem zainstalować sterowniki ale po kliknięcu na System Administracja Sterowniki, system prosi tylko o hasło i dalej nic się nie dzieje. Nie mogę teraz zainstalować. Wie ktoś dlaczego?

To moze zobacz ci wywala w konsoli - nie ma tak, ze "nic nie wyswietla". A tak w ogole, to instalowac sterowniki najlepiej za pomoca instalatora nvidia.

Tylko ciekawe, czy jakies udoskonalenia ubuntu tego ci nie uniemozliwia - no coz, wlasnie m.in z takich powodow uzywam Debiana zamiast Ubuntu.

Ja sobie sam instalowalem sterowniki tak jak root przykazal i nie mam problemow (mam tez Ubuntu).
Spróbuj mojego xorg.confa (tylko zrob sobie najpierw kopie wlasnego)

Odpal system z livecd - skopiuj sobie swojego xorga - nastepnie wstaw mojego i sprobuj odpalic normalnie komputer - jak odpali to sprobuj w SYSTEM/PREFERENCJE zmienic rozdzialke:

Zainstaluj sterowniki z strony nvidi, ktore? Najnowsze :D Te z repozytorium sa z natury mniej wydajne. Sam mam taka karte wiec wiem ze dziala tak jak trzeba na niewolnych sterownikach.
