Nic się nie dzieje po tym poleceniu. Jeszcze tych plików oczywiście nie skopiowałem. Które gdzie i jak skopiować bądź pozamieniać?
usb_modeswitch.d rozumiem że w całości podmienić?
Co z 40-usb_modeswitch.rules, Makefile, ChangeLog, (COPYING, README)?
Jak chcę usunąć stary pakiet usb-modeswitch-data przez synaptic, to chce usunąć z zależnym usb-modeswitch.

Wklej tu cały wynik dmesg po podłączeniu modemu. Włącz też logowanie w usb_modeswitch:
For debugging of the automated system integration, edit (as root or su) /etc/usb_modeswitch.conf in a text editor and change the line
EnableLogging=0
to
EnableLogging=1

This gives you a verbose output of the hotplug activity to /var/log/usb_modeswitch_<device>.

Jestem połączony z siecią przez wvdial, włączyłem logowanie w usb_modeswitch.

Widać przecież, że urządzenie identyfikuje się jako 12d1:1446 (są do tego reguły w usb_modeswitch) i następnie się rozłącza i podłącza ponownie już jako 12d1:1446 i zaczyna działać jako modem. Więc w czym problem?

Pisałem na początku tego wątku ponad miesiąc temu, że chcę opanować zasady połączenia tego modemu z karta aero2 i konfigurację modeswitch, ponieważ chciałbym zastosować takie rozwiązanie do połączenia tego modemu ze smartfonem Nokia N900, za pomocą aktywnego usb-huba, która działa z systemem Meemo 5 na bazie Debiana. Coś tu jednak jest nie tak, przecież nie mam plików usb_modeswitch.d zainstalowanych? I nie wiem, czy takie będą mi potrzebne do planowanego rozwiązania w Nokii. A poza tym, jak się łączę za pomocą polecenia w terminalu

Z opisu pakietu usb-modeswitch:
Na Debianie, nie jest to konieczne, ponieważ sterownik jest dołączony jako moduł jądra Linux, taki jak "usbserial". Jednakże, urządzenie nadal pokazuje się domyślnie jako "usb-storage". usb-modeswitch rozwiązuje ten problem, wysyłając polecenie, które faktycznie wykonuje przełączenie urządzenia z "usb-storage" na "usbserial".
Poza tym okazuje się, że niektóre urządzenia same się przełączają w różnych sytuacjach. Jeżeli natomiast bardzo ci zależy na tych pakietach to ściągnij z internetu usb-modeswitch-data (z oficjalnej strony), rozpakuj zaloguj się jako root i wklep:

Systemu nie wysypie. To tylko jeden plik i jeden katalog. Zawartość pliku konfiguracyjnego który moim zdaniem będzie miał zastosowanie dla twojego modemu wkleiłem już wcześniej, ale (plik nazywa się 12d1:1446):

Ale skoro modem działa na tych 2-ch konfiguracjach (zakładam, że nawet jak się identyfikuje jako 12d1:140c to też działa) to powyższe polecenia nie są wymagane.
Nie wiem na jakiej wersji debiana bazuje maemo 5 i jakie tam jest jądro. Jak nie ruszy z miejsca to będzie potrzebna instalacja usb-modeswitch. To popularny modem i nie powinno być problemu. Co do rozłączania to czekałeś całą godzinę? W manualu wvdial jest coś takiego:
Auto Reconnect
If enabled, wvdial will attempt to automatically reestablish a connection if you are randomly disconnected by the other side. This option is "on" by default.
W moim mniemaniu rozłączanie co godzinę mieści się w "randomly disconnected by the other side", więc powinien się połączyć automatycznie.

Już zaczynam kumać, czyli, że w Debianie z moim kernelem nie potrzebuję wcale w /etc/usb_modeswitch.d/ tworzyć czy kopiować pliku 12d1:1446, bo przełączanie i tak już następuje tak samo, czy on by był, czy go nie ma? Faktycznie, modem działa na tych 2-ch konfiguracjach.

Tylko dla ciekawości, tu miałeś na myśli pakiet z tej strony http://packages.debian.org/pl/source/wh ... witch-data czy ten co już ściągnąłem od Draisberghof?

Wątek może jeszcze być otwarty, jak już zaopatrzę się w aktywny usb-hub i będę bawił się Nokią, to może wrócę do tematu.

1. Katalog /etc/usb_modeswitch.d/ jest przestarzały (squeezy). Teraz (wheezy i pakiety z oficjalnej strony) zapisuje się pliki w:

2. Obydwa pakiety są na tyle nowe (wersja wheezy), że to wszystko jedno.
3. Nie wiem na jakiej zasadzie działa to w tej chwili. dmesg nic nie mówi o działalności usb-modeswitch. Twierdzę jedynie, że ten modem jest dość popularny i jest na rynku już trochę czasu. Jeżeli nie ruszy do razu tak jak u Ciebie, to instalacja usb-modeswitch załatwi sprawę.

Trzeba było tak od razu, a ja się pytałem od samego początku, jak to możliwe, że folder pusty, a modeswitch działa. W katalogu /usr/share/usb_modeswitch jest paczka configPack.tar.gz a w nim obecny 12d1:1446, widocznie z niego korzysta modeswitch przy uruchamianiu wvdial.
